Poundland sees surge in £1 pregnancy test sales since start of lockdown

The chain, which has kept most of its stores open to sell essential items, said sales of the kits have gone up by 25 per cent since the measures were introduced at the end of March.
Sales have increased in all parts of the country but have been at their highest in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands and Slough in Berkshire.

Hide AdThe news follows speculation that life in lockdown could lead to a baby boom in nine months' time, with a wave of so-called ‘coronababies’ being born around Christmas.
People seeking contraception have been advised by doctors to do so over the phone and not attend GP surgeries in person.
Poundland trading director Tim Bettley said: ‘If you've been wondering how people have been spending their time in lockdown, we've found the answer.

Hide Ad‘Couples under the same roof don't need to worry about social distancing and they've been getting up close and comfortable, as our sales figures show.
‘Based on our sales, Britain should be preparing for a baby boom as couples found more entertaining ways to relax than watching box sets or doing jigsaws.’
