THIS WEEK IN 1974: City pledges new Southsea amenities
They pinned their optimism on pledges given to them by Richard Sotnick, the leader of the new Portsmouth district council, which took over the administrative affairs of the city.
He said: ‘The district council will encourage a change of emphasis in civic priorities towards more leisure activities and there will be some relaxation in planning regulations for hoteliers.
‘Southsea wants more leisure facilities for old and young to enjoy.
‘With the help of the Hotels and Guest House Association, we are hoping to encourage more private capital investment in the resort.’
