'˜Grabber' to help injured soldiers earns Portsmouth BAE apprentices a top title
The team of 10 trainees, from BAE Systems maritime services wing, clinched the title at the firm’s Apprentice Innovation Challenge.
Eight groups were set a task by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to create an improved ‘grabber’ device to help patients with limited mobility to pick things up.

Hide AdEach squad had nine months to plan, design, create and test their products before presenting it to a panel of judges and experts.
Team Portsmouth’s device allowed injured personnel to use any finger to operate the grabber’s trigger.
Lewis Hall, team member, said: ‘We’re truly humbled and utterly shocked that the judges decided we were the winning team.’
