Daniel Chapman fears he may have to fork out '˜hundreds of pounds' for repairs to the skirting of his BMW 320 after it was pierced by by metal along Manor Road, on Hayling Island, yesterday.Â
Just after 9am, the piece of metal sprung up from the road, rattled through the bodywork '“ leaving a gaping hole '“ and tore an exit hole where it became firmly lodged.Â
Mr Chapman, who works in air conditioning, was startled.Â

'˜I heard a massive bang, followed by scraping all the way down the road,' he said.Â
'˜When I got home I saw what looked like a drill piece hanging out of the bottom of the car. The skirting will need to be replaced and I'm worried about the insurance quote.'Â
A Lidl spokesperson said the piece of metal is not representative of the '˜heavy machinery' used on-site.Â
However, Mr Chapman confirmed a worker from Soldi '“ a construction firm involved in the build '“ visited his Kings Road home and removed it.
