First delivery of 5,000 tonnes of rocks at Southsea sea defences
The Southsea Coastal Scheme reached another milestone this week with the first distribution of Norwegian Anorthosite rock, which has been placed east of the Spur Redoubt at Long Curtain Moat.
Work will now start to layer the rocks to dissipate the force from waves. This includes excavating the area in front of the east pile line.

‘About 60 metres of drainage has been installed on the eastern side of the works in preparation for the new promenade. We are looking forward to welcoming new marine life to rock revetment tidal pools when they are installed – hopefully we will see seaweed, barnacles, crabs, and, fingers crossed, a starfish or two.’
A second delivery of armour rocks for the defences is anticipated from Monday (weather permitting).
