From the goalkeeping department up to the strikers, there’s strength in depth in every position and it's a key reason why the Blues sit fourth in the table.
However, there is always room for improvement.
Pompey are always looking how they can bolster their set-up to progress their quest up the football pyramid.
Already, Kenny Jackett and his recruitment team will be putting together early plans for the summer window – despite the manager's contract still unsettled.
Whether the Blues achieve promotion to the Championship or not, signing players in League One this season is always a useful starting point.
And we have picked out one player from all 23 of Pompey’s rivals who would improve the current squad...
1. AFC Wimbledon - Joe Pigott
The striker has been one of the bright points during the Wombles' scrap for survival. Pigott has scored 15 goals in 34 games and will surely be on the move in the summer. Photo: Warren Little
2. Accrington - Joe Pritchard
Strike-duo Colby Bishop and Dion Charles have earned plenty of plaudits but Pritchard's been just as important in Stanley's surprise play-off push. The versatile former Bolton man has scored six goals and created five. Photo: Daniel Chesterton
3. Blackpool - CJ Hamilton
Perhaps what Pompey lack is genuine, blistering pace in their squad. That's Hamilton's main attribute and he's recorded five goals and three assists this season. Photo: Charlotte Tattersall
4. Bristol Rovers - Alfie Kilgour
The centre-back has attracted interest from the Premier League and Championship in the past. Perhaps Kilgour hasn't had his best of seasons - like the Gas - but there's still bags of talent there and more to come. Photo: Graham Hunt
