The Cowleys know all about Jacobs’ qualities after facing the former Wigan man in the Championship while with Huddersfield.
So head coach, Danny, has no doubt about the impact he can make at Fratton Park in the weeks ahead.
He said: ‘We know Michael well from his time at Wigan.
‘I thought when he came on with Ben Close there was that calmness and that extra pass.

Hide Ad‘You look at his qualities, when we saw him in the Championship we saw his qualities at that level.
‘So there’s no doubt in his game intelligence, technical ability and we are looking forward to working with him.’
The challenge for Jacobs now is to stay fit for the rest of the run-in after a stop-start time at Pompey to date.
The man brought to Fratton Park by Kenny Jackett last September struggled with a knee injury picked up at Sunderland the following month, following a challenge by defender Bailey Wright.

Hide AdThen there was seven-game lay-off with a hamstring injury picked up against Plymouth in February, before concern was raised about his other hamstring last week.
So his presence was a boost for the new management team.
Cowley added: ‘It was great.
‘When we come in they said he was struggling with his back and hamstring, there’s an issue there and he’s having a scan.
‘It was great when we got in last week, they said it’s feeling a bit freer and there’s 25 or 30 minutes maximum in him.’
