WHEN Chris Martin found out his wife was pregnant, he was delighted - but never in his wildest dreams did he imagine his child would be born on the day Pompey lifted the FA Cup.
But at 5.15pm on Saturday, almost at the very moment Sol Campbell got his hands on the famous trophy, the couple's son arrived – to be named Oliver Harry Martin in tribute to manager Harry Redknapp.

And after their own special tribute to the man, the couple are backing The News's bid to get Redknapp knighted.

Chris Martin of Granada Close, Cowplain, said: 'I'd definitely like to see Harry knighted.

'He's done so much for the club, lifting it out of relegation into a top 10 place in the Premiership, and also all the charity work he does.'

Season ticket-holder Chris, 35, had to give up his ticket to the FA Cup final because of the imminent arrival of son Oliver.

His wife Emma, 29, had been due to give birth on May 2, but with the baby two weeks late doctors decided to perform a Caesarean at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.

Proud dad Chris listened to the last 10 minutes of the game on the radio but said the birth of his son could not be missed.

'I wouldn't have missed it for the world,' he said.

'When he was born they were playing Perfect Day on the radio – and it really was.

'It was quite strange. I went outside to phone the family and half the conversation was about the baby, and half about the football.'

Emma said: 'All the doctors felt sorry for him, and kept telling him the score – I felt really guilty!'

Chris decided to sell his ticket the day before the final as Emma had been induced the day before, making the birth imminent.

'I would rather stay in the hospital all day and nothing happen than go to the game and risk missing anything,' he said.

'I don't think any Pompey fan in their right mind thought we would win the FA Cup.'

The couple then decided that it was only right that their son's middle name was named after the manager that got Pompey to the FA Cup final in the first place.

And Oliver will get his first Pompey kit next week.

Did you pick the baby up by its ears and lift him above your head, as per Sol Campbell?
