The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers has launched a charter to protect bus, ferry and rail workers, calling for cross-company zero-tolerance policies after a survey showed police failed to attend 40 per cent of the 4,865 assaults on RMT members last year.
The union has demanded an end to unnecessary lone-working, more uniformed staff and better legal protection for transport workers.
