Shipbuilding and training firm VT is now in pole position to win a £150m contract to provide elementary flying training.
The firm's Support Services Division has secured preferred bidder status for the Initial Military Flying contract, which would see them provide cadets and students with basic flying expertise.

It would be an extension of its existing Light Aircraft Training Programme.

The move follows a contract win last month, which saw Ascent, VT's 50-50 joint venture with Lockheed Martin, secure a £635m, 25-year contract to train pilots from scratch.

Most of the training will be based in Bournemouth.
