A new commercial radio station is to hit the airwaves.
Aimed at the over 40s, The Coast will broadcast on 106 and 106.6FM.
Reaching from Poole to Bognor Regis, and as far north as Winchester, the station will play classic-orientated music as well as hourly news bulletins.
It will be based in Southampton, and will be a rebranding of Original 106FM, the station which formerly broadcast on the 106FM frequency.
The station had been bought from CanWest by Celador Radio Broadcasting, and as of a minute past midnight this morning Original ceased broadcasting.
Music will be broadcast for one month on the frequency, before the new station goes live at midnight on October 29.
Paul Smith, chairman of Celador, said: 'We'll hear much less speech, and a much higher amount of familiar music.
'The sound will be softer, more melodic, but it will stay aimed at 40-plus.'
