Gosport has been given a £10m jobs boost as more apprentices will be trained at HMS Sultan.
Flagship, the Royal Navy's training partner, has signed a seven-year deal with British Energy to deliver an apprentice programme from September.

The new contract will create an additional 12 academic and instructional roles at the academy, which will swell the company's number of instructional and training support staff to close to 900.

The residential scheme will combine technical engineering training with a comprehensive life skills programme. Under the new contract, five annual intakes of apprentices will be trained at HMS Sultan and accommodated at nearby HMS Collingwood in Fareham.

David Barber, BE's head of technical training, said: 'This will be the first time that we have brought all of our apprentices together under one training regime.

'We think the benefits for them and for us as a company will be tremendous.'

HMS Sultan is due to close in 2017.
