What do you give to the dog who has everything?
An edible greetings card.

West Sussex firm Reg and Ruby Pet Accessories has beaten hundreds of entrepreneurs to reach the Southern Regional Finals of the 2008 HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards.

Annette Denby, Paul Hartley, Nicola Hartley and Victoria
Hartley started the company in August 2006, and are now hoping to scoop the top prize of £50,000.

Their 'Greet me-eat me' cards – for Easter, Valentine's, or general greeting – are all made from rawhide, an edible natural animal by-product.

The firm, based in Shripney, Bognor Regis, has secured orders from Harrods, Selfridges and Pets at Home for its range of toys and treats – and it distributes to more than 100 web-based companies.

Reg and Ruby Pet Accessories is one of 20 companies to secure a place in the Southern Regional Finals.

The 'Greet me-eat me' entry will now be considered by a local panel of business experts who will select the top 10 start-up companies in the South to go forward for national judging.

The national contest, now in its eighth year, is designed to seek out the most promising start-up businesses in the UK.

The overall winner will be revealed at a black-tie gala at London's Dorchester Hotel on October 29.
