Administrators deal '˜hammer blow' to BHS

THOUSANDS of BHS staff were left devastated as administrators announced the closure of the chain '“ which has stores in Portsmouth, Fareham and Chichester '“ by August 20.

Dave Gill, national officer at the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, said: ‘This is the final hammer blow to BHS staff, who have been worried about their future for over a year since the company was sold for £1 and put in to the hands of the administrators.

‘Usdaw calls on the administrators to redouble their efforts in finding a buyer for the remaining stores and to secure as many jobs as possible.’

He called on Sir Philip Green to honour promises made over pensions and urged other high street retailers to look at re-employing the 11,000 ‘dedicated and experienced BHS workers who will all soon be unemployed’.
