SOUTHAMPTON Airport has enjoyed a record breaking summer with an almost 15 per cent passenger increase on last year.

With nearly 430,000 passengers travelling through its doors during July and August, the airport has had its highest passenger figures since August 2007.

The airport has had a bumper year, welcoming four new airlines including KLM and Aer Lingus. It was also the first UK airport to offer scheduled flights with European airline Volotea.

Flybe has announced five new routes from Southampton including Biarritz, Paris and Munich. Thomson will also be introducing an Ibiza service for summer 2017.

Airport managing director Dave Lees said: ‘It has been a record summer here at Southampton Airport due to the number of popular new flights and routes.

‘We hope to see this trend continue into 2017.’
