A WEST SUSSEX racecourse is expanding its business potential and recruiting more staff.

Fontwell Park, which has recently been named as a finalist in the Betview Awards Racecourse of the Year title, is doing its best to take advantage of its new £6.5m Premier Grandstand, built in August.

It has enabled the racecourse to diversify its business into hospitality, conference, weddings, banqueting and meeting space.

The team is headed up by Grant Elgin, 34, who is the new commercial manager at the racecourse.

He says its new facilities are among the best on offer.

He said: ‘Fontwell Park provided the perfect opening for me. I am really passionate about horse-racing, and the superb facilities we have here are among the best I have seen.’

Chris Walker, 24, from Fareham, has come to Fontwell Park as the business development executive.

Chris joins Fontwell from the Amateur Swimming Association where he was the regional development officer, and is working closely with Grant to drive new business to Fontwell Park.

Claire Edwards, 24, will be developing the wedding side of the business.

She said: ‘Non-raceday events have really been strengthened over the past year with the build of the Premier Grandstand.’

Claire is joined by John Fullbrook, 44, who is the new ops manager, and Emma Newbery, 21, who is the new marketing and commercial executive.
