MORE than 100 delegates attended an employment conference at Langstone Technology Park.

The Skills and Employability Partnership Annual Conference focused on recruitment this year and included presentations on graduates, work experience and apprenticeships.

The event is organised every year by Havant Borough Council.

Council leader Tony Briggs opened the conference with positive facts, including unemployment being down in the borough by 500 on last year’s figure, and planning permission granted for the huge Dunsbury Hill business park in Leigh Park.

Councillor Yvonne Weeks, who heads economy for the council, said: ‘This was the eighth year the conference has taken place and each year the mix of private and public sector delegates is inspiring.

‘The focus is on improving the skills of local people and to open opportunities through apprenticeships and training to improve their employability.’
