CRIME fans are in for a treat next week when bestselling author Graham Hurley reveals how he made Portsmouth the star of a series of hard-hitting police novels.

The former resident has drawn heavily on the city as the gritty backdrop to his popular and long-running series of novels featuring DI Joe Faraday and DC Paul Winter.

In the latest of the University of Portsmouth’s series of free public lectures – at Portland Building next week – he will reveal how he made the switch from writing ‘international thrillers’ to crime novels at the advice of his publisher.

The move proved fruitful, as the Faraday series ran to 12 novels, and was followed by a spin-off series set in the West Country featuring DS Jimmy Suttle.

Trespass Who Dares: Adventures in Crime Fiction is at Portland Building, Portland Street, on Wednesday, May 18, from 6pm to 7pm, with a drinks reception to follow.

Admission is free, but places should be reserved at grahamhurley.eventbrite.co.uk.
