A BANK’S call centre worked at by 1,000 people in Southampton could be moving to Whiteley, it has been reported.

HSBC has reportedly told its staff it is beginning a consultation on a move, believed to be from its current Norwich House and Frobisher House bases to a new home 10 miles away.

A spokesperson for the firm confirmed a consultation was under way.

She said: ‘We are consulting with colleagues about a proposal to move from our current location to another site in the Solent area.’

No decisions have been made yet about the future of the centre’s location.

It is expected a decision could be made next year.

As reported in The News, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has called on HSBC to rethink the closure of its branch in Lee-on-the-Solent. If the branch does close, it will leave the town without a bank.

She said: ‘Lee-on-the-Solent is home to a huge number of small businesses, many of whom depend upon the services of their local bank which is why it is so worrying to hear that HSBC is soon to close.’
