THE number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) benefit across the Portsmouth area has risen, according to government figures.

Statistics published today by the Office for National Statistics revealed 2,737 residents in Portsmouth are claiming JSA, compared to 2,661 in December.

In Fareham, the number has risen by 38 from 488 to 526 and in Gosport there are 767 people claiming the benefit, compared to 734 before.

Havant has seen a rise from 1,274 to 1,351, and Chichester’s figures have gone from 709 to 732.
