BRITTANY Ferries has announced it has enjoyed a record summer, carrying almost 750,000 passengers from Portsmouth to France and Spain during the June to August period.

Mike Bevens, group commercial director for Brittany Ferries, said: ‘Our strategy has been to develop Portsmouth as our major port because of its excellent road links and proximity to London.

‘This year we have added a new “no-frills” service called Brittany Ferries économie, serving both Le Havre and Santander and this has done extremely well in attracting customers who are prepared to forego some of the extras provided on our cruiseferries by paying a lower fare.

‘We are also pleased that Portsmouth International Port has been able to invest on an ongoing basis to make our customers’ experience as comfortable as possible.’

Martin Putman, port manager for Portsmouth International Port, added: ‘We are delighted with Brittany Ferries’ success this summer and it is evident that Portsmouth is becoming firmly established as an altogether more pleasant alternative to other ports.’
