A BUS service has been short-listed for a new national award.
The Eclipse Bus Rapid Transit, which First operates with Hampshire County Council between Fareham and Gosport, is up for the Smarter Travel Awards 2015’s Most Improved Journey To Work category, sponsored by Sustrans.
Since its launch in April 2012, around 4m journeys have been made on the Eclipse buses, which run along two miles of dedicated bus lanes.
The company says Eclipse Services E1 and E2 are now carrying 65 per cent more passengers than the services they directly replaced.
There has also been a 14 per cent shift from people using cars to the bus.
Marc Reddy, managing director at First, said: ‘The Eclipse has been one of Hampshire’s great public transport success stories.
‘Reaching the short list of these ground-breaking new awards again highlights the contribution it has made to improving journeys for people travelling around Fareham and Gosport.’
