THE News is extending the deadline of entries for its Business Excellence Awards.

Applications will be accepted for entries in all 15 categories of next year’s awards until 5pm on Friday, December 5.

The extension of more than two weeks means even more firms can get involved in the celebration of local businesses.

A number of businesses from across the region, as well as the University of Portsmouth, have got on board and are supporting the awards.

All of the categories have now been sponsored, with BAE Systems the overall sponsor.

Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said he hopes even more businesses in the Portsmouth and south east Hampshire area get themselves and their staff involved and submit their applications before next month’s deadline.

He said: ‘Now there is even more time to companies to enter – we hope for a bumper number of applications. The News Business Excellence Awards are recognised in the communities we serve as a huge accolade for everyone who wins them.

‘Whether it is exposure through The News or extra credibility, winners tell us time and again how grateful they are to have been recognised by these prestigious awards.

‘I wish everyone who enters the best of luck, and look forward to next year’s awards ceremony at the Guildhall.’

One of this year’s sponsors is the University of Portsmouth.

Peter Hooley, operations and projects support manager research and innovation services, explains why they got involved in this year’s awards.

He said: ‘The university and the Innovation Space project are sponsoring this category because we want to see people take the plunge and turn their brilliant ideas into successful businesses.

‘Innovation is what the university lives and breathes every day, we delight in seeing others becoming as excited about innovation and new business ideas as we are.’

A shortlist for the 15 categories will then be announced by The News and on our website portsmouth.co.uk.
