SHOPS are being urged to take part in a fun day.

Cosham businesses are wanted to help out at a community day on the high street on May 9.

Organiser and co-owner of The Merch Hut Alex Dutton said: ‘We saw what was happening in Southsea and Fratton and we wanted to do something similar in Cosham.’

With the help of Portsmouth City Council it hoped that the day will raise the community spirit in the area.

‘Businesses will be coming out on to the street to set up stalls with different activities and we will have a stage so that local bands can perform at the event,’ said Alex.

Subway has offered its services by putting on a Man vs Food-style challenge for sandwich lovers.

Alex has also organised a bouncy castle, face paint, kids disco and dress up Disney characters.

‘We still need more business to help out though as we want to promote what is on offer,’ said Alex
