ISLE of Wight MP Andrew Turner has called for a review into ferry services in the Solent.
Mr Turner was speaking at a House of Commons debate yesterday where he said the operators ‘have huge debts’ and were not offering value for money.
He complained of the high price of tickets and reduced number of crossings, adding, ‘The truth is, the Isle of Wight, and Islanders, are suffering from inflated prices and service cuts which were caused by the decisions of the operators.’
He said higher public spending in Scotland meant huge subsidies for ferry operators north of the border while in the south passengers pay operating costs and profits.
Mr Turner has called for a government review into Red Funnel and Wightlink.
