SHOPPERS enjoyed a calm start to Black Friday at the new Tesco store in Fratton.
Around 30 people arrived at the store at 5am to get their hands on bargains.
Security staff let the customers into the store in two groups to give them the chance to browse the range of deals.
As shoppers around the country headed out in search of bargains, the superstore opened an hour earlier for today’s Black Friday event with its stores at North Harbour and Havant also taking part,
Ukil Ali, from Eastney, arrived at 3am to ensure he was the first person inside the shop.
The 55-year-old said: ‘I was looking forward to seeing what deals were on this year.

‘I took part in Black Friday two years ago but missed the rush of last year.
‘It has been really calm this morning and the store has handled it well.
‘There have been some great deals.’
Mr Ali picked up a new television and tablet.
Store manager Jon Roberts said those two items had been popular.
‘We have some great deals on the televisions which a lot of people have been interested in,’ he said.
‘The Tassimo coffee machines have been popular too as they have been reduced quite a lot.’
He added: ‘Black Friday went really well this morning. It has been very civilised and everyone had the time to chose exactly what they wanted.’
