THE manager of a business park is hoping to fend off the competition and make it a hat-trick of awards as it enters The News Business Excellence Awards.

Gosport Business Centre, based in Aerodrome Road, has put itself forward for the Community Contribution of the Year prize.

The centre, managed by Basepoint Business Centres Limited, is hoping to build on its recent run of success after being named Best Business at The News We Can Do It awards at the New Theatre Royal, in Guildhall Walk, on November 28. Two days later, it clinched an economic growth award for its contribution to the local economy at the Gosport Business Celebrations 2011.

The centre, which is home to 44 businesses, has set the bar high for entrants. In recent months it has raised almost £3,000 for its sponsored charity Smile Support and Care with a craft stall day and a balloon race on site.

Centre manager Andrew Weston, 47, said: ‘One of the things we try to do is make a difference in the community.

‘We would be overjoyed if we won. It would be recognition for all the hard work we have put in. There are a lot of organisations that do a lot for the community, and being up there with the likes of Veolia at the We Can Do It awards was something we didn’t take for granted. We’ve become a well-respected establishment in the area. That’s something we’re very proud of.’
