Chancellor George Osborne given tour of Royal Navy warships

CHANCELLOR George Osborne was today given a tour of the Royal Navy’s most advanced class of warships and pledged - we will have the world’s most modern navy.

The chancellor was in Portsmouth to announce a national shipbuilding strategy on the day the government has named three firms in the running to take over the city’s vacant shipyard.

He arrived early this morning for a tour of Portsmouth Harbour by boat, viewing all the ships currently alongside including Type 23 frigates Iron Duke, Richmond and Lancaster as well as Type 45 destroyers Daring and Defender.

He was then taken on a tour of Defender to meet her ship’s company and learn more about life on a modern navy warship.
