BUSINESSES north of Portsmouth are to be placed firmly at the heart of a council’s plans to boost economy.

Winchester City Council has launched a charter for business, co-signed by the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

Robert Humby, the council’s portfolio holder for economic development, said: ‘Winchester City Council is putting business at the heart of all its work.

‘This charter sets out what we mean by that in terms of economic development, work with our tourism industry, environmental health and lots more.

‘We also set out what we expect from the business community: participation in the projects we run and advice on ideas we have to help the local economy.’

Stephen Gates, chief executive of Denplan, who is chairman of the HCC’s Winchester area committee, added: ‘The Chamber of Commerce has a good relationship with Winchester City Council, and we are kept fully informed of the council’s work and future plans. I look forward to this relationship growing and becoming ever-stronger.’
