A CHEMICAL company based in Hampshire has announced it will re-evaluate its sales policy after tear gas it produced was used on unarmed protesters in Hong Kong.

Chemring, which has its headquarters in Romsey and has a branch at Havant, made the announcement after Chinese police used its tear gas to quell the pro-democracy ‘umbrella revolution’ underway in the former British colony.

The tear gas is produced in Derby by a branch of the company called Chemring Defence.

Another branch, Chemring Marine, is based in Havant and produces flares.
