Ten new jobs have been created and it will have an in-store bakery, Costa Coffee and an ATM.

Manager Jillian Miles said: ‘We’re thrilled to have a fantastic new food store with which to serve the Portsmouth community – it is an exciting time for the whole store team. We believe the store will really be an asset to the community.

‘The Co-operative is a community retailer, and we are committed to playing an active role in local life.’

The store will also have a Community Pioneer role where a staff member will get the shop involved in community activities.

It will be open seven days a week, 7am until 11pm.

In August, The News revealed the firm’s large North End store was closing.
