A SOUTHERN Co-operative store in Wickham has been presented with a community business award by Wickham Parish Council in recognition of the team’s ongoing support for local activities and their contribution to the village.
Councillor Angela Clear, chairwoman of Wickham Parish Council, who presented the award to the co-operative’s retail business manager Pete Wearn, said: ‘At the parish assembly it was with great pleasure that we presented the Southern Co-operative in Wickham with a community business award for their charity fund raising programme.
‘The store helped purchase a community bus for the Meon Valley Lion’s Club, helped make it possible for the Scouts to complete their new scout hut and most recently raised a substantial amount of money for Wickham Church of England School towards a trim trail fitness circuit.’
It is the second year that the Southern Co-operative Wickham store has won this award.
The Southern Co-operative also donated £500 towards the provision of a new town centre manager.
Pete Wearn said: ‘The team here at The Southern Co-operative constantly strive to deliver our society’s values based on supporting our local community.
‘This award shows that we’re doing the right thing to support local organisations and charities. All the team are committed to continue this and we support each other in helping colleagues to participate in village activities.’
