THE Wessex Federation of Small Business has joined the Institute of Directors and the Forum of Private Business to express concern at the British Chamber of Commerce being handed sole responsibility for running a group bringing together Local Enterprise Partnerships.

The appointment was made by the Department for Communities and Local Government, which is responsible for LEPs.

The business organisations, which represent more than 250,000 businesses between them, are concerned that through awarding one organisation sole responsibility, wider business interests and concerns will not be taken into account, and that the appointment has been made without putting the opportunity out to consultation or to tender.
