STAFF were not at fault for a break-in at a library which saw £1,000 worth of computers stolen.

Thieves smashed their way in to Portchester Library, in West Street, overnight on Tuesday, December 1, before making off with computer hard drives.

As reported, there were claims that the alarm did not sound as it had not been set properly, following a noise abatement notice being issued by Fareham Borough Council in 2002.

A Hampshire County Council spokesman said yesterday that staff had followed all security procedures and were not at fault in any way.
