ENTRIES to The News Hair and Beauty Awards have been flooding in.

And the first completed application to hit in tray was that of Safia’s Barber in Fareham. Priding itself on customer service, Safia’s has already won an award at the BSCS Opal Awards 2015 and owner Safia Khalid is hoping for another accolade .

The barbers, based in Fareham Shopping Centre, was launched in September by Space to Trade, and it won in the Mall Retail category at the BSCS Opal Awards in London last month.

Owner Safia Khalid said: ‘It was incredible just to have been shortlisted for the Opal Awards, but to win is amazing.

‘Space to Trade has been incredibly supportive and has been involved every step of the way from the very beginning.’

There was a lot of competition from shopping centres across the country, and Safia was over the moon when Matt Richardson, who co-presents the Xtra Factor on ITV 2, announced Safia’s Barber was the winner.

After claiming the Opal award, Safia is now hoping for victory at The News’ Hair and Beauty awards, which take place at Portsmouth Guildhall on July 4.

She said she hopes the salon will stand out as it offers a warm and friendly environment with dedicated staff.

Safia said it’s important that the customer feels relaxed when visiting us.

She said: ‘It would mean everything to me to achieve another award, not just for me but for our customers to see that we are achieving.’

And following on the back of her recent success, she hopes to take her formula to other shopping centres.

She is launching a second barbers in the Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham, Kent, and Space to Trade is again providing support and financial assistance to help her grow her business.

This years Hair and Beauty Awards will see hundreds of stylists, beauticians and barbers take over the Guildhall for a night of fun and entertainment.

There are 13 categories to enter – from trainees to lifetime achievement – for which entries must be received by Friday, May 8. This year, categories must be entered by the salon or stylist themselves, email hairandbeautyawards@thenews.co.uk for an application form.
