PHARMACEUTICAL giant GlaxoSmithKline has signed a £1.9bn deal for its American partner on a potential blockbuster medicine.

The firm, of which Gosport-born Sir Christopher Gent is chairman, hopes to take over drug firm Human Genome Sciences and make Benlysta, the first new drug to treat immune system disease Lupus in the US for more than 50 years.
