A LARGE office building that has remained empty for two years is set to be sold off.

Hampshire County Council is close to securing a buyer for the former social services building, Town End House, in East Street, Havant.

The two-storey building, built in 1985, used to accommodate around 100 social services staff, but they moved out in 2012 to offices at The Plaza, in Civic Centre Road, Havant.

Council officials said the sale will offer ‘excellent opportunities for the local economy in terms of continued employment’ and cash from the sale will be reinvested into improving other public services.

Council leader Roy Perry said the buyer remains confidential until the deal is secured. He added: ‘The sale of Town End House brings some positive benefits, not only for the town’s economy, but also for the council taxpayer.’
