THE first winners of a town’s loyalty card scheme has been announced.

Emsworth Businesses Association introduced the Emsworth Extra loyalty cards at the beginning of the year to try and combat the impact on shoppers affected by an increase in parking charges.

Customers are given a card and each time they shop locally they receive a sticker.

Once the card has 10 stickers – from at least four different businesses – they can enter a prize draw.

The winner for February was UWilde, of Victoria Road, Emsworth.

They won £25 in shopping vouchers, plus an appointment for a hair treatment, cut and finish at Charter Cutting Co.

They were picked by the association’s chairman Giles Babb, landlord of The Bluebell Inn, South Street.

He said: ‘We think it’s been going well.

‘Last month, 222 Extra cards were completed and entered into the prize draw – which is great news.

‘It has given businesses a boost and encouraged people to shop locally.’

Mr Babb is heading a major drive to get people shopping locally in light of the horse meat scandal.

The association has also brought in Hampshire Farmers’ Markets to the town which specialises in local produce.

More than 30 independent shops, pubs and cafes have joined a loyalty card scheme, which was being launched in the town January.
