A GYM due to close at the end of last month has been saved after a new owner stepped in.

The former Fitness First in Down End Road in Fareham closed at the end of June, but has this week reopened as a 24/7 Fitness club.

It will operate as a sister club to the company’s first branch at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.

Emma Hine, operations director for 24/7, said: ‘There’s a great local community here and it seemed like the ideal location for us to open our second club.

‘We’ve managed to keep on some of the instructors but a lot of the other staff had already left by the time we could take it over.

‘We only opened on Monday but we’ve been amazed by the number of people coming through the door – literally hundreds.’

The club is open from 7am to 10pm on weekdays, and will expand to full 24-hour opening in about eight weeks.

Fitness First announced in May that its Fareham branch was one of 10 it was closing as part of a national review of its portfolio of 160 clubs.
