OUTSTANDING results have seen a leisure centre named one of the best in the country – for the second year in a row.
Fareham Leisure Centre, which is run by Everyone Active on behalf of Fareham Borough Council, has been ranked ‘outstanding’ by a quality assessor for sport and leisure.
The Quest Stretch scheme looked at 2,700 leisure centres across the UK and Fareham is the only centre to achieve the top status twice.
Centre manager Ryan Grant said it was down to the hard work of his team and he thanked the public for bearing with the centre as it undergoes a £1.5m refurb.
Mr Grant said: ‘It’s all down to the hard work of the fantastic team I have here.
‘It’s thoroughly deserved and I’m proud of what we have achieved.’
Quest Stretch looked at all aspects of the centre, from hygiene and cleanliness to facilities and general service.
Customers’ views were taken into account in the assessment, which also included two mystery visits and an unannounced day to appraise the management, operations and customer service.
Everyone Active area manager Ian Cook said: ‘This is an amazing result.
‘It’s the highest accolade a leisure centre can get.
‘Only one other centre in the UK currently holds Outstanding status and Fareham is the only one to retain the award for the second time.
‘We’re absolutely delighted.’
The council’s executive member for leisure Cllr Connie Hockley said: ‘It’s well-deserved recognition for the staff who put in so much hard work to create the best customer experience possible.
‘I’m proud that we can officially boast one of the top leisure centres in the country.’
The refurbishment is due to finish on September 1 and a fun day will mark its reopening on Saturday, September 27.
