FAREHAM’S Ferneham Hall took more than £200,000 in box office sales from its pantomime.

The performance of Beauty and the Beast, which starred Ian ‘H’ Watkins from pop group Steps, helped the venue take 18 per cent more cash than the previous year.

Many of the matinee performances in the weeks leading up to and after Christmas were sold out.

The average capacity was 70 per cent.

Fareham Borough Council’s councillor in charge of leisure and community, Cllr Connie Hockley, said: ‘We are very pleased with the response to Beauty and the Beast this Christmas.

‘The cast were tremendous and the production as a whole has been a hit with critics and audiences alike.

‘We look forward to building on this success when tickets for 2012’s pantomime go on sale in a few weeks.’

The pantomime at Ferneham Hall next Christmas will be perennial favourite Jack and the Beanstalk, which will run from December 14 to January 6.
