FAREHAM will get its first ever gluten-free food fair this weekend.

The food fair is being held at Ferneham Hall in Osborn Road on Saturday.

It has been organised by the Portsmouth and surrounding areas’ group of Coeliac UK, known as The South East Hants Coeliac UK Group.

It is hoped around 1,000 people are going to attend the food fair to meet gluten-free food manufacturers and find out more about coeliac disease.

Clair Payne, an event organiser for the group which relaunched in December 2013, said: ‘We have hundreds and hundreds of registered coeliacs in the immediate area alone and there are hundreds more undiagnosed.

‘There are even more with gluten intolerances.

‘We welcome everyone with an interest in gluten-free food.

‘And, it’s a great way to find and try new foods, meet producers and chat with gluten-free specialists.’

Admission is £1 and free for children. The event will run from 11am to 3pm.

The venue has a large car park and can be used by visitors.

Around one in 100 people in the UK has coeliac disease.
