BUSINESSES are to be given training in how better to spot fake bank notes being spent in their outlets.

The fake Note Detection Training is being organised by the Portsmouth Business Crime Reduction Partnership and delivered by an official Bank of England trainer.

In the first half of last year thousands of pounds-worth of fake notes were found in Portsmouth shops, casinos and bars – with £2,000 being handed in by the Grosvenor casino in Gunwharf Quays alone.

The event will take place at the Salvation Army’s The Haven, in Lake Road, Portsmouth, tomorrow, from 11.30am.

The session will only last an hour, and is free to PBCRP members or costs £5 otherwise.

Anyone wanting to take part is being asked to take along a selection of their own bank notes to compare to the fake ones being used in the session.
