A HAIRDRESSERS which has been nominated for the Havant Small Business Awards has backed the competition and encouraged others to get involved.

Kuru, a hair, beauty and tanning studio in West Street, was nominated by one its customers in the Best Health And Beauty Business category of the awards, which are organised by Havant MP Alan Mak.

It is one of 12 categories in which residents can nominate their favourite business.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at South Downs College later this year.

Mr Mak launched the awards – backed by the News – last month and any resident can nominate their favourite cafe, pub or restaurant, a tradesperson who has gone the extra mile, or a business leader or apprentice.

All nominations must be for businesses within the Havant parliamentary constituency, which covers Havant town, Emsworth, Hayling Island, Bedhampton, Langstone, Purbrook, Stakes, Widley and Leigh Park.

Mr Mak said: ‘Congratulations to Kuru for being one of the first businesses nominated for the awards this year. Nominations from the public are coming in fast and deciding this year’s shortlisted finalists will be a tough task. I encourage all residents to visit my website and submit their nominations.’

Everyone who nominates will be entered into a prize draw to win tickets to the awards evening and some House of Commons Champagne.

Kuru owner Ginny Sutton said: ‘I am delighted that Kuru has been nominated. I wasn’t aware that Kuru had been nominated, so it was a great honour to receive the notification. It is vital that small businesses are recognised for their hard work and achievements.

‘These awards are even more important given the constant economic changes and challenges faced by small businesses.

‘Small businesses sit at the heart of the local community and can only survive when we all support each other. Our nomination is testament to the team and customers that make Kuru the business it is.’
