AN amnesty day for the disposal of out-of-date distress flares is to be held on October 8.

It is being organised by the River Hamble Harbour Authority in conjunction with Portsmouth-based ordnance disposal company Ramora UK.

The event will take place in Shore Road car park, Warsash, between 10am and 3pm.

Those who come along to the day will be able to dispose of their flares for £1 per flare.

The event is open to all, including commercial operators, and there is no limit on the number of flares which can be handed in.

Those with more than 20 are being asked to contact the River Hamble Harbour Authority on 01489 576387 to book an appointment.
