TWO former police officers have started a company specialising in caring for older people in their own homes.
The new business will create 50 new jobs over the next year.
Home Instead Senior Care, which is based in Fareham, will serve clients across Fareham, Portchester, Stubbington, Titchfield, Wickham, Lee-on-the-Solent and Gosport.
Owners John and Alison James were inspired by their own careers, having both worked for Hampshire police and spent their lives protecting others.
Following John’s second career working with a Canadian-based software company supplying systems to police agencies across the world, he and Alison said they felt the time was right to launch their own business.
After investigating a range of opportunities they settled on Home Instead, saying they both felt that the values and ethos of the company best reflected their own.
John said: ‘For Alison and I policing was a vocation with service to the local community as one of our main reasons for joining.
‘There are many parallels between policing and the care sector – caring and protecting others is a vocation and a profession in the same way that policing is.
‘We have two key ambitions for our business, to be recognised for the quality of the service we provide and to be the employer of choice for people who want to work as a care professional.
‘Caring for others can be undervalued and we want to change that perception.
‘We match our caregivers with a small number of our clients and we don’t do short duration calls.
‘We offer a minimum of one hour to ensure a lasting and trusting relationship.
The company is keen to speak to people to join them.
John said: ‘We are looking for people who are compassionate, empathetic and supportive, who will enjoy seeing the difference they are making.’
