The first entries have been received and excitement is building ahead of the next Business Excellence Awards.
The awards, run by The News, are now in their 16th year and recognise the contribution of businesses to the regional economy.
There are 15 categories to enter, ranging from Start-Up to Business Personality of the Year and Large Business of the Year.
The winners will be announced at a black-tie gala dinner held at Portsmouth Guildhall on February 10.
One of the first people to enter this year is Becky Lodge, from Little Kanga. She founded this sales, marketing and advertising company in Portsmouth in March, 2015.
Since then she has helped more than 250 companies, has set up a popular networking event and been shortlisted for a Venus award.
However, she now has her sights set on a Business Excellence Award and has entered the Start-Up category.
Becky said: ‘People don’t tend to get excited about business any more, but we should be excited by business. Sometimes the passion is lacking. If you are not passionate about your own company and about selling your own company, then how are your customers going to get excited by it?
‘Business is fundamentally about building good relationships. I love Portsmouth, it is a great city with massive potential.
‘I hope by entering these awards it will help promote the area.’
Little Kanga has an enviable client list, including University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth City Council, BE Group/Stansted Airport and many more. Becky has over 9,000 followers on Twitter and is an advocate of social selling on a major scale.
As well as this, Becky gives her time freely to two nominated charities, The Rucksack Project and Brain Tumour Research.
Lucy Grey, senior associate at Trethowans, this year’s headline sponsor, encouraged people to enter.
She said: ‘We are urging many companies to nominate each other, but also put themselves forward for one of the categories.
‘The awards aim to reward standards of service, encourage competition and recognise excellence. We are trying to entice out hidden gems in the region.
‘We all work hard, but everyone should be proud of what they have achieved. This is an opportunity for businesses to share their success stories.’
