HUGE spools have arrived at a pipe manufacturer adding an interesting new look to the skyline.

Magma Global added two new spooling drums to its Trafalgar Wharf site, in Portchester, this weekend.

The spools, which are around 15m tall, will be used to store and offload carbon fibre pipe for the subsea oil and gas industry, each holding up to two miles of pipe.

Magma’s CEO Martin Jones said the drums will help the company’s expansion, increasing its global exports and creating additional jobs.

Business Secretary Vince Cable opened Magma’s unit in February.
