But thanks to the generosity of a Portsmouth jewellery store, he was given an exact replacement.

The 28-year-old married his sweetheart Jessica on July 30 at The Tournerbury Woods Estate, on Hayling Island, and went on a mini-break to Woolacombe in Devon with their one-year-old daughter Ivy to celebrate.

After going on a surfing simulator, just four days after their big day, Shaun discovered that his gold wedding ring had slipped off his finger.

Despite searching high and low for it, with the help of the holiday park staff, the ring had disappeared.

Upon their return, Shaun contacted Goldsmiths in Cascades Shopping Centre where he bought the ring, and he was delighted to be offered an exact replacement by the store manager.

Shaun, from Havant, said: ‘When I lost the ring we were absolutely devastated but they went beyond company policy and gave us an exact replacement free of charge.

‘It is an unbelievably kind gesture from Goldsmiths.

‘The fact that we’ll have the ring before our honeymoon is so important to us, and we honestly can’t thank them enough.

‘There’s enough negativity in the world, and I think that it’s quite heartwarming to know that there are still so many lovely people around.’

The couple have known each other for eight years, meeting while Mr Clarke served in HMS Illustrious.

Shaun, who now works in IT in Basingstoke, said: ‘We met in a nightclub – my mate was chatting her up and I decided that I quite liked her myself.

‘I’ve never let him forget it but I can’t imagine he would be best pleased if I told everyone his name.’

The couple are now looking forward to going on their official honeymoon to Antigua next week.

They went along to the store to collect the replacement ring last week.

Store manager Jon Mondey said: ‘We were happy to help Mr Clarke and provide him with a replacement wedding ring when we discovered that he had sadly misplaced his original when away on his mini-moon.

‘Here at Goldsmiths we’re proud to provide exemplary customer service and it’s great to have been able to assist with something so personal on this occasion to make a real difference.

‘We wish Mr and Mrs Clarke all the very best and hope they have a fantastic time on their honeymoon.’

Centre manager Rhoda Joseph said she was delighted to hear of the ‘excellent example of customer service’ from one of the centre’s stores.
