THE mayor of Gosport will open a new section of the town’s Asda supermarket.

Long-serving staff at the store will celebrate the completion of a makeover on Monday.

Martin Dowse, one of the workers at the supermarket who has been there the longest, will cut the ribbon alongside colleagues Jean Foster, Lynne McSparron and the mayor of Gosport, Councillor Richard Dickson.

Store manager Kenny Farrell said: ‘It’s our colleagues that make Asda Gosport what it is, and although we’ve changed our store, the friendly faces will be the same.

‘Having Martin and our longest-serving colleagues reopen the store with the Mayor of Gosport is our chance to say “thank you” for all their loyalty and great customer service over the years.’

The store has been restyled throughout, including an extension to the non-food departments with the George department doubling in size.

The official launch takes place at 1pm.
